Product Notes

Kodaq isn't your normal hip hop artist. Although many of the hip hop characteristics are in his music, he attempts to make everyone a fan. Not only does he rhyme about what he goes through, he tries to incorporate a variety of topics in a way that everyone can relate with. Hate your 9 - 5? So does he. Need to have a drink to take the edge off and escape your life for a bit? Who doesn't? Daydream about what your life would be like if you had more money? You're not alone. Kodaq's motto is "Just give it a chance" and he believes if you do, there will be at least one song for everyone. Growing up in Hampton, Virginia, Kodaq always loved music. Raised around a variety of types, he grew to enjoy them all. One Christmas, Kodaq was given his first boom box along with some cassette tapes, The Footloose soundtrack & a rap compilation tape (don't ask how his parents came up with two choices from opposite ends of the spectrum). The first rap song Kodaq remembers is "My Adidas" by Run DMC (this might explain his love of sneakers as well). Kodaq continued to consume all the music he could, without ever really choosing one particular favorite over the others. At the age of 17, a friend offered Kodaq a way of sharing his thoughts and opinions that he had only practiced in his bedroom mirror. With his new found tools in reach (a notebook, a pen & some beats) Kodaq spent hours and hours jotting down whatever came to his mind. He readily admits now that a lot of those earlier rhymes weren't very good and showed his immaturity. Kodaq stepped away from the spotlight for a couple years, but never stopped writing. In January of 2008, Kodaq dropped his first EP, Life in a Snapshot. To his surprise, the response was extremely good. Because of this, he released a mix tape titled scRAPbook vol. 1 in April of the same year. The mix tape didn't do as well as the EP but his loyal fans agreed that it was better than the EP. Kodaq began working with a local producer named JB Eazy "The Beatbox King" on his first official album. The end product, Developin' is what Kodaq considers his best work. He just hopes people will give it a chance.....
