Enjoy a fresh and sentimental approach to traditional Christmas tunes along with soft, new creative holiday guitar music! Candlelit Christmas uses acoustic stringed instruments to interpret old favorites in new, soothing and sometimes dissonant ways. For example, track 4, 'Angels' reinterprets the old favorite 'Angels We Have Heard on High,' with alternate melodies and beautifully sparse instrumentation. Track 8 reinterprets 'What Child is This?' as a surprisingly high-energy song with a bluesy guitar lead. Five totally original compositions paint sonic landscapes in winter themes: 'Desert Wind, Winter Rain' is a musical interpretation of a winter storm slowly rolling in from the desert up to the Sandia Crest in New Mexico. Listeners can almost imagine the sun rising over a frozen December landscape while listening to 'Solstice Sunrise.' The song 'Heart of Winter,' sound-paints a field of cold and sometimes lonely feelings experienced amidst a holiday when everyone seems happy except for you. Candlelit Christmas is not your mass-market shopping mall holiday music. It is a quiet, personal collection of instrumentals meant to be enjoyed in contemplative moments. Lee Thomas is a composer/musician who lives in Maryland, USA. He has played acoustic guitar for more than 30 years in bands, churches and solo venues. His 'signature' picking style catches the ear and captivates friends and fans alike. From simple, open style arrangements to fast, complex instrumentals, Lee's music comes from the heart and soul--truly a delightful and mellow listening experience. Candlelit Christmas is a product of Lee's passion for writing, performing and arranging new musical works. 'During each Christmas season I always loved performing traditional classics using my own arrangements. Friends and family insisted I bring my guitar and perform for our holiday get togethers. Each year I also played for various Christmas services and holiday events. After moving to Maryland a few years ago, I found myself wishing I could once again entertain friends and family for the holidays; only now they were on the other side of the country! Since I couldn't go to their homes and play during the holiday, I decided to create 'Candlelit Christmas' and send them my Christmas music greetings on CD.' Lee fashioned the feel of Candlelit Christmas on the simple-yet-elegant piano stylings of Jim Brickman's solo albums. 'In my guitar arrangements I tried to create a sentimental and expressive instrumental feel. In addition to fresh arrangements of six traditional Christmas songs, I wrote and recorded four original instrumentals and one vocal song, 'Royal Gift.' I married these songs together in much the same way Jim Brickman's instrumental CDs usually contain all instrumentals and one vocal song. My good friend and professional vocalist Nikki Learner did a superb job on 'Royal Gift' and many people have told us it's their new favorite Christmas song. At first, I self published the CD only for my family and friends. It was sort of like a modern day hand made gift... some people make crafts for gifts, I made my CDs by hand. Soon, people wanted to by them for their friends and I found myself reproducing CDs by the hundreds. Now, I'm making Candlelit Christmas available through CD Baby so anyone can make these instrumental acoustic guitar performances part of their Christmas music collection.'
