Product Notes

The second CD release by vanguard guitar ace and SF Bay Area mentor Lindsey Boullt is a tour de force collision course of hot chops, fusion, world and Arabic tinged rock. The disc is a high profile who's who with Jerry Goodman, Derek Sherinian, Stu Hamm and Peter Van Gelder in tow to exploit the six slinger's encompassing mesh of assertive but compatible styles. "Moving Panvishnu" and "Aurora's Aura" are obvious tributes to the glory days of early 70's jazz-rock with Goodman stretching out across Boullt's fluid but restrained playing reminiscent of Allan Holdsworth's most engaging leads. Perhaps the most striking statement comes on "Call for Peace" with Sukhawat Ali Khan singing an emotive traditional lead vocal that recalls Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's high profile endeavors. Sherinian is showcased prominently on the disc's closing piece, which twists the Indian rock experiment further with fiery outcomes. Bassist Stu Hamm shows why he's the master of the session strut on the aptly titled "Groovin with Stu" and lastly the composer ain't afraid to get heavy either as heard on "Bravo Davo de la Torre". Fans of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai can walk up, shake hands and embrace enthusiasts of Shakti and Zakir Hussain with this interlocking and well crafted set of pieces due to hit the guitar playing world head on. And yes there will be many smiling survivors. Jeff Melton Staff Writer, Exposé Magazine expojeff@comcast.net ' ...if any music is a product of the Mahavishnu legacy...this is it! (with, Yes, Zeppelin and Shakti thrown in...) Very enjoyable and well done.' Walter Kolosky - Author 'Power, Passion and Beauty : The Story of the Legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra.
