Product Notes

Little Sparta are a band based in the UK. The names comes from the garden of a Scottish poet and artist. The band has been going since around 2000 with various members coming and going. Around 2002 we hooked up with a poet named Gerry Mitchell and made a few records with him on the seminal Fire Records (Spacemen Three, Pulp, Teenage Fanclub) and got some excellent review and press in the UK and on Pitchfork in the US for SCALPEL SLICE (2005) and THE RAGGED GARDEN (2008). Since 2006 Little Sparta have been creating a work involving shadow puppets and original music. As a stepping stone to that project Little Sparta has \'scored\' the 1926 animated film THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED. This is a performance played live to the film and from which 4 tracks have been released by the band themselves. Little Sparta have also created a single with Sally Timms of the Mekons which was released in the UK by Grey Gallery Records - a unique project that deals in visual arts and music alike.
