Determined to succeed, Mac attended the Chicago Conservatory where his natural writing ability, playing, singing and production skills were enhanced. He was also a member of the Afro Latin Jazz group, the Pharaohs, the Brides of Funkenstein, the James Brown Band and the original, historic, Regal Theater Band under famed conductors Red Saunders and George Hunter.
