Product Notes

Notes from the Artist about this CD. In 2004 I was approached by Tim Dee of BBC Radio 4 and asked if I would write music for a twelve part radio series called 'A map of British Poetry' being put together by Tim and presented by the poet laureate Andrew Motion. I felt very flattered to be invited to collaborate on the project, especially given my dyslexic nature and dislike of reading. However they were not asking for words but for music and I was excited to be commissioned. I found the source material for this project inspirational: the interviews and the poetry provided a rich combination to create from. Each piece is written as a tiny 'symphony' to be contained within a 30 minute radio programme. The most moving for me was Labyrinths, written in January 2005, taking inspiration and texture from the complex network that comprises the London Underground. About the Artist. Malcolm is a composer and musician based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. His feature film music credits include 3 award winning films; 'Blinded', '16 Years of Alcohol', and 'Young Adam'. Young Adam starred Ewan McGregor and for this movie Malcolm worked as string arranger for David Byrne. Recent TV credits include dramas for ITV, BBC and BBC Scotland, with documentaries for BBC 1, BBC 2, and Discovery. He has/is working with various bands including the Moors, the Delgados and the Willard Grant Conspiracy. Malcolm's classical compositions have been performed internationally, from Moscow to Mexico and his ventures into jazz have earned him a Sennheiser jazz award.
