Mark Bloom is a composer, songwriter, producer, pianist, vocalist and sound designer with a background in traditional synagogue music combined with over twenty-five years of experience in the secular world. This unique pairing of skills has allowed Mark to produce and accompany concert artists as varied as Joan Rivers, Noa and Gil Dor, Peter Himmelman and Second City. Mark has written extensively for regional and national theater, while maintaining a busy schedule of nightclub appearances, private engagements, studio work and educational projects. He is musical director of several performing groups including his variety band, Marquis and fusion ensemble, Kavannah. Mark frequently conducts workshops and learning sessions, serving as composer/artist/scholar-in-residence at congregations across North America. A progressive force in modern American Jewish jazz for more than a decade, Mark has produced his acclaimed Jazz Shabbat service at over 45 synagogues and temple communities. His original material and stirring improvisations expand the boundaries of contemporary Jewish music.
