Martin Breinschmid is one of the leading traditional musicians in Austria and also very well known in the rest of Europe. His instruments are vibraphone, here influenced by Lionel Hampton (a.o) and drums. Touring recently with Rossano Sportiello, Frank Roberscheuten, Shaunette Hildebrand. This album featuring Pete Yorke (d) & Rossano Sportiello (p), fresh swing tunes with great sidemen and solid vibraphone work from the frontman as usual! Comment of the bandleader: Hello classic swing fans! First I'd like to thank you for buying this CD, which is a product that comes straight from the heart of all participants. We got together on Sunday 5th of June 2005 after performinging two nights at Vienna's Jazzland and recorded all material in two hours, one take per tune, which shows that special understanding between musicians who have the same musical background and ideas. I met Rossano Sportiello in 2003 on a tour that the German impresario Manfred Selchow put together. Apart from being a fantastic pianist who covers all styles from Willie "The Lion" Smith to Bill Evans he is also one of the nicest people I have ever met. He has played with about everyone in today's classic jazz scene and has been a sensation on several US jazz parties. I'll also never forget the long car rides on our tour of Germany where Rossano, one hand on the steering wheel, a tuning fork in the other would hum jazz standards all day long. Pete Yorke of "Spencer Davis Group" fame, hosted a TV show called "Super Drumming" in the 1980's. I used to watch that show not knowing that 20 years later I would be playing with that fantastic drummer. Pete's flamboyant drumming style is deeply rooted in the jazz tradition and he provides the foundation and the fire that I, being a drummer myself, was always looking for. Apart from jazz, Pete and I share also a passion for the old Mel Brooks movie "The Producers". So most of our offstage time in Vienna was spent reciting Max Bialistok's and Leo Bloom's dialogues from that ever so funny movie. Herbert Swoboda is an old friend, who is actually the pianist in my regular quartet and who shows again that he is equally brilliant on clarinet. With his own group "Jazzclusive" he has accompanied literally hundreds of American jazz stars and on this CD, like on every other recording he has done he is the actual Mastermind concerning head arrangements. The bassist Martin Treml has been on Vienna's jazz scene for many years and has played with an endless list of jazz soloists, always providing the kind of solid foundation that all jazz groups regardless what style they play are looking for and depending on. I would like to thank all my friends for their contribution to this CD and I hope that you have as much fun listening to this record as we all had making it. Keep swinging. Martin Breinschmid.
