My name is Matata Rae and I've just recorded my first solo album, Prophet of Rage, at Sample Kings recording studio in NYC. The past four years, I've been recording hip hop professionally on an independent record label called STOP RECORDS. Within those three years, I have had an opportunity to test the college market and preference of the overall hip hop audience. After careful analysis and research, I believe this CD, Prophet of Rage, will be able to contend with any multiplatinum selling CD in the hip hop genre. One of the reasons I chose to record an album was because I wasn't satisfied with the current status of hip hop, and the mis-representation of the urban youth. I knew hip hop before the exploitation and materialism came into play. Therefore, I tired to incorporate lyrical skills, and positive concepts mixed with modernize production. Hopefully, it will be accepted with open arms by the new school of hip hop listeners and old school alike. Matata means troublemaker in Swahilli. Rae without the 'e' is RA, referring to the ancient Egyptian Sun God which is believed to be the beginning of life itself. I adopted the name because I am proud of my Asiatic/African American ethnicity. My mother felt it was necessary to educate me on spirituality, and Afrocentric philosophy through Christianity and Islam. As time past on, and my political views developed, I appreciated the militancy of Public Enemy, Tupac Shakur and the philosophical views of KRS-1. These concepts proved to be very significant in my music and overall outlook on life, hear and listen.
