Matt Masters is a Calgary country singer nearing the edge. After ten years of working across Canada and internationally, he's played hundreds of shows, performed for thousands at a time, performed for Prime Ministers and Governor Generals. The folk clubs say his sound is 'too country.' The country clubs say his sound is 'too underground.' Mainstream radio says he sounds 'too edgy.' Matt is all of these things, and 'underground edgy country,' well that's not a bad description for what this is. On his new album, Don Coyote, Matt presents nine songs, all new compositions that make up the soundtrack of his play of the same name. Don Coyote premiered in Calgary in June of 2008. After a successful run, it toured to Toronto where it was hailed as a "must-see" by the Toronto Star, Now Magazine and others. What's a self-represented country singer doing writing a critically acclaimed play? That's another question entirely.
