Product Notes

KELLY DELANEY (Contributing Editor - American Songwriter Magazine) 'Meraudio is like another of Canada's best kept secrets - Molson's Ale - once you get a taste of the band's music, you won't settle for less. If there is a better 'undiscovered' group inventing original music, I've yet to hear it. In fact, I'd say rock'n'roll's prime meridian is now located in Toronto.' JIM KELLY (Canadian Musician Magazine) 'Angels & Gasoline is fuelled by energetic modern rock with accessible melodies, churning guitars and modern beats. Standout tracks include the upbeat opener 'Wasting Me', the ultra-catchy 'Life For Forever' and, adding a change of pace for the closing cut, the aching acoustic ballad 'Burdened Eyes'... If he keeps writing and recording the kind of songs that wouldn't sound out of place on any modern rock radio playlist, you can bet that more ears will be filling up with the sounds of Meraudio.' ARTHUR BUENAHORA (Director of Creative Services - Sony / ATV Tree Music Publishing, TN.) 'After listening to Meraudio's music I can think of no reason why this band won't be huge.' LESLIE HOWE (Producer - Alanis Morissette, One To One, Sal's Birdland, Artificial Joy Club) 'The strength and originality of Matt's voice is what gives him a hip new approach to new music today.' VENESSA BEAULIEU (Arts Editor, The Lance, Windsor, ON) 'Tough and pouty at the same time; a delicious mix... There is an obvious comfort on stage, a deep connection to the performance space and the audience that oozes out and around Matt when he performs.' DAVID BRIGGS (Editor, The Argus, Thunder Bay, ON) 'Matt Ruttan is a great guy who makes great music. It's a simple formula that works to the benefit of listeners everywhere. His latest release Angels and Gasoline is a great album that works for many reasons... Plus, his voice is amazing... Not only is Ruttan adept at creating great hooks, but he also seems to harbour an ethereal ability to compose the perfect chorus. It's true. If the hooks don't get you the chorus will be guaranteed to draw you in.' Meraudio - a 2-minute picture: Once upon a time Matt Ruttan founded 'meraudio' - a rock-sonic roller coaster. Meraudio: [(myrrh-audio) n.] acronym for Matt Elton Ruttan (mer) + the experienced medium (audio). Jim Kelly of Canadian Musician Magazine describes the sound as 'energetic modern rock with accessible melodies, churning guitars and modern beats.' It is a sound that has been evolving since day 1. Citing influences ranging from Run-DMC to Pearl Jam, & from Son House to Steve Earle, Matt Ruttan has been creating an enigmatic, intelligent & pop-sensible sound since his first days as a performer. Immediately he developed a stage persona in lead performance and acting roles in high school shows. A musical titled 'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' lead to Matt co-founding the folk/rock/blues hybrid 'Fallen Season' who quickly graduated from smoky Muskoka taverns to sharing the main stage at world famous folk-fest MARIPOSA with blues legend & Juno winner LONG JOHN BALDRY. Matt's path towards life as a musician was affirmed when at graduation he received the award for OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE PERFORMING ARTS. Local cable specials and radio shows were also in the cards. After graduating and morphing his sound into the aggressive yet radio-savvy rock that shaped his university years, Matt moved to downtown Toronto to hit every open mike night across the city where his vision led to the stage of famous rock havens the El Mocambo and the Horseshoe Tavern. Soon, both solo and with his band, a definite style had evolved and more people began noticing something special. Kelly Delaney, contributing editor of American Songwriter Magazine, noted that 'Meraudio is like another of Canada's best kept secrets - Molson's Ale - once you get a taste of the band's music, you won't settle for less. If there is a better 'undiscovered' group inventing original music, I've yet to hear it. In fact, I'd say rock'n'roll's prime meridian is now located in Toronto.' As his experience grew, Matt began playing for bigger audiences while performing opening slots for acts such as the Crash Test Dummies, Dexter Freebish, The Jeff Healey Band and David Wilcox. The band started selling out of EP CDs before sets had finished and grants from F.A.C.T.O.R. and the ONTARIO ARTS COUNCIL helped the material reach even more people. Songs appeared on compilations sponsored by MOOSE FM RADIO and REVENT RECORDS. In the meantime SONY / ATV TREE MUSIC PUBLISHING in Nashville heard the buzz and invited Matt to begin a co-publishing project. As Venessa Beaulieu, arts editor of The Lance (U of Windsor) described: 'There is an obvious comfort on stage, a deep connection to the performance space and the audience that oozes out and around Matt when he performs.' At the same time Matt's writing continued to receive special attention after placing as a finalist in the 2001 ISC INTERNATIONAL SONG CONTEST which boasts over 4000 entries from over 40 countries. In August 2002, Meraudio made public the 1st full length CD titled 'ANGELS & GASOLINE' to highly receptive college radio. Dave Briggs, editor of The Argus writes: 'It's a simple formula that works to the benefit of listeners everywhere... Not only is Ruttan adept at creating great hooks, but he also seems to harbour an ethereal ability to compose the perfect chorus. It's true. If the hooks don't get you the chorus will be guaranteed to draw you in.' Songs also won a featured spot on DREAMSTREAM.CA - CBC RADIO's international web-stage for Canadian music. With the music industry quickly noticing the Meraudio momentum train the word keeps on spreading. In 2003, 'Wasting Me' won a highly coveted and promoted slot on the CANADIAN MUSICIAN COMPILATION CD - a result of the nation wide GREAT CANADIAN TALENT SEARCH. Jim Kelly of Canadian Musician Magazine sums it up best when he writes: 'If he keeps writing and recording the kind of songs that wouldn't sound out of place on any modern rock radio playlist, you can bet that more ears will be filling up with the sounds of Meraudio.'
