Michael Luebke was born in Monmouth, IL and grew up in Sioux City, IA. Michael found music at an early age beginning his studies on the cello at the age of 3. Michael grew up in a musical household, his mom being a pianist and vocal coach, and his dad being a composer/arranger and theory composition teacher. Michael started formally singing in fourth grade with his mother's childrens choir. Having a classical background in singing and cello, Michael picked up the trumpet and drums in fifth grade trying to explore new and exciting things. Playing the trumpet and band and beating on the drums in his own time, Michael explored the art of writing songs around the sixth grade. In middle school Michael struck a great friendship with William Storm. The two wrote together and played together. Wanting to form a band they found two other friends of Michael's at a different school and the 4 of them called themselves 'Blue Pelican'. Blue Pelican last about 3 years and during that 3 years recorded a CD in Sioux Falls, SD. The self titled album sold around 150 copies to friends, family, and a few strangers they pressured into buying them at the mall. During high school the band split up because of the busy schedules we were all carrying. Michael and Will had a bunch of new music and were planning a CD of their own. Will got distant and so Michael went on with out him. Michael recorded the CD 'Once Again' locally at Flood Music Studios in SC and all the other musicians on the record were all friends of Michael's from the Siouxland area. As well as singing classical and pop music, Michael is accomplished in the field of vocal jazz. A member of Iowa's All-State Jazz Choir for 3 years and being a featured soloist all 3 years. Michael was also one of 8 high school kids chosen nationally for the 2005 Gibson/Baldwin Grammy Jazz Choir. Michael has been apart of regional and national honor choirs since 5th grade. He is also a 3 year Iowa All-State Cellist and has won numerous jazz solo awards for trumpet and bass. Currently Michael is attending the University of Miami, FL on a full tuition vocal jazz performance scholarship. Please check his out his CD and help make him known!!
