Misguided Youth Instrumentation: John Weidel - Vocals George Andrikokus - Guitar/Sax/Vocals Joe Plazak - Guitar/Vocals Dickie Lavergne - Bass Brian Collins - Drums Biography: Misguided Youth formed in 1997 in Chicago's Western suburbs and has continued evolving their unique sound ever since. They are 5 separate musicians that when combined give us a unique blend of music with an edge that's all their own, guaranteed to rip up the Chicago music scene. They have the vision to mix the masterful sounds of Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Hard Rock, and even a Groove of Hip Hop. If you enjoy undeniable talent and a unique sound that pays respect to where it came from, then check out this band. Lead Vocals John Weidel is a born entertainer, see just one show and he proves it. The raw energy he brings is second to none and ignites fans. At the age of 4 he began imitating the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, but with a little more testosterone. He witnessed the explosion of hiphop and rap which started his wheels turning. He also had influence from his Uncle's Salsa and Reggae band giving him exposure to different genres of music. At 14 he got his first electric guitar and traded it to George his step-brother and Lead Guitarist of Misguided Youth, for a drum kit. They began to crank out whatever cover-tunes they could with John handling the singing duties as he does today. Guitar/Sax/vocals George Andrikokus began his musical career teaching himself on the piano at the age of 5. Once he got into grammar school he started playing various wind instruments in the school band, finally settling on his favorite one in high school, the Sax. At the same time he taught himself to play the electric guitar and seemed a gifted natural. George is still a talented 2 instrument musician playing his electric guitar and turning out methodical licks on his Sax in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. After having the pleasure of listening to him play either instrument, fans are happy that George traded away his drum set and moved on to his current instruments. Bass Dickie Lavergne gives Misguided Youth some wicked funk on the bass. His interest was captured when he heard music coming from a house in his neighborhood. Not being shy, he investigated the sounds to find an unmanned keyboard and joined the guys by using it to fill in the bass riffs and he was sold. Soon after he purchased his first 4 string bass and began taking lessons from the one and only Funk/R&B bassist Bill Dickens. Today Dickie puts those lessons to use for the band wielding his bass like no other. Drums Brian Collins auditioned for the band one time, and one time was all it took. With hands of lightning and coordination of a drummer reminiscent of a certain drummer from Rush, the guys knew their search was over. Brian's father was an accomplished jazz/rock drummer and his talent was obviously passed on to his son through a drummer's genes. He now plays a dual role as he continues to play the drums for the Elmhurst College Jazz Band and he has redefined the way the drums can and should be played. Guitar/vocals Joe Plazak is the newest member who adds another dimension and tons of experience to this already talent stacked line-up. Throughout his life Joe has studied and plays guitar, bass, drums, and piano as well as classical guitar for Elmhurst College. Joe has found a home in Misguided Youth evidenced by his ever-present smile and his own words "it just feels right". He was heavily influenced by jazz from his high school music director and has a vast knowledge of 20th century composition techniques such as specialization, polyrhythms, and non-tertian cords. It simply means... The guy can play! Misguided Youth is now taking on the music world and blowing away old boundaries. In 2000 they self-produced 1000 copies of their first album entitled 'Reality'. This 12-song collaboration gave fans a heavy dose of the reality that these guys are here to stay. In late 2004 they released "5 song demo" which was well received selling out 300 copies within weeks. It was reproduced twice after which sold out through 2005. 2004 also produced the first live recording released by the band "Live at Double Door EP" Courtesy of "Emusic live." In the beginning of 2006 the early version of "Skywalk Evader" was released as a Single just for use on their EPK which has went on to win awards such as placement on the "2006 Best of Drophits.net Compilation CD" and winning local radio station Q101's weekly Friday night at 9 competition in May. This bands unique sound has given life to a new era in music and has captured a loyal fan base that grows with each and every show and song released.
