CLEAR, the band's first release, is a collection of songs recorded during 2001-2003. The CD is an adventurous tour of musical styles - a touch of funk, some pop textures and thoughtful lyrics - with a firm base in hard rock n' roll. Funky bass and spirited vocals are the trademarks of Mike Sydnor. Whether it's a slow ballad or a power rock tune, Mike is always ready to throw his brand of rock into the mix. Mike grew up in Hillsboro, Illinois and has been playing in the Chicagoland area for more than 20 years. Mike has been a member of many successful bands, including Starbuck, Source, FastBuck and Tropic. Jack Martin's classic songwriting and lyrics play a major role in defining MJSTK's unique sound. Jack has played in previous touring bands with Kurt in Ollie Ryce and Glider, and with both Kurt and Sue in He Said She Said. In addition to his solid rhythm and lead guitar work, Jack handles lead and backup vocals in many of MJSTK's songs. The majestic voice of Sue Larson gives many of MJTSK's songs a certain comfortable feeling that makes them special. Sue hired Kurt to play in the band Glider after Kurt and Jack's band Ollie Ryce disbanded. Kurt and Sue were later married and have been playing together ever since. Tony Stephan helps provide the 'rock' edge that creeps into MJSTK's songs. A newcomer to the music scene, Tony was invited to join the band as he was practicing on his steering wheel and Mike pulled along side his car at 50 mph to inquire if he was looking for a band. After exchanging phone numbers through the rolled-down window (while still driving), the rest seemed pretty easy. Kurt Larson plays many roles in MJSTK - - - songwriter, lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist recording engineer and producer. Kurt has plenty of experience to draw from based on his work with the bands Ollie Ryce, Glider and He Said She Said, and the hundreds of bands he's recorded at his studio Precision Recording.
