Singing since early childhood, he was greatly influenced by such greats as Nat King Cole, Sam Cook, Johnny Hartman, and Frank Sinatra. Oscar was bitten by the singing bug when he was only eight years old. Since then he has performed on shows with famous groups such as The Manhattans, Roy Ayers, and Curtis Mayfield to mention a few. His sound is described by many as smooth, soothing, mellow, relaxing, soulful, and easy listening. He especially loves to sing ballads. When he sings them, they tend to command attention from his audiences. It has been said that whenever couples hear him, they fall in love all over again. Among his many musical accomplishments, Oscar Sheppard has been nominated for an Emmy Award by The National Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences as a composer for the Nationally acclaimed documentary ' Sweet Auburn' (CBS) and was recently named a finalist in the Jazz vocalist category on Black Entertainment Television's Jazz Discovery and was subsequently featured on 'Jazz Showcase' which was aired internationally. Recently, Mr. Sheppard completed production of his debut CD entitled Kiddio. The title song is cover of a Brook Benton song that was a hit during the 1960's. Other songs include standards such as, You Go to my Head, I Get A Kick out of You, Wee Small Hours of the Morning, as well as two songs written by Oscar himself. Performing for audiences in venues from night clubs to festivals and concert halls, Oscar's rich baritone and lush stylings embrace lyrics and melodies in such a way that it's easy to see why he is called " The Smooth One".
