This album, Maui Moments, was composed while I was on a chemotherapy break at Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. During this time, I was writing music for Into The Light's dramatic performance of the Book of Revelation. Most of the music that I composed on this visit was for that production. When I completed my stay at Kihei, there were several pieces that didn't have a place in Revelation. They took on a life of their own. In listening to them just before returning to the Mainland, the titles came to mind, simply and clearly. The songs had something to say about life's journey from times of sadness to times of dancing. They also seemed to be speaking of relationships, and the importance of relationships, and what we will do to keep them. The songs sing of togetherness, of peace with others and of a remembering of beginnings. While visiting my daughter in London on Armistice Day, I heard the local vicar speak of standing before a bridge in northern England. On the bridge was inscribed the word, "Remember." The song Sadness is this kind of remembering, remembering from where we come, and remembering of what we need to cross over from times of trouble to times of Dancing. Looking, we find ourselves reaching out to others and Moving Up. Stay Here speaks of working through and continuing a relationship, saying "I'll do anything for you," repeatedly. Finding what was lost; we find ourselves At Home and Settling In. Waking is that return from sweet dreams and realizing a loved one is nearby. Touch Me sings of a loved one's healing touch. After All is "said and done," and knowing that we have done well, we are At Peace, and find ourselves Dancing.
