Paul's first solo CD, 'Awakening,' was released in 2002 and immediately received critical acclaim, putting Peress in the running at the 2003 Grammy's for 'Best New Artist', 'Producer of the Year', and 'Album of the Year.' Now Paul emerges from the studio with his second CD, 'Then Again' - with a cover design by pop-artist, Peter Max!! The CD features at it's core the adventurous trio of Peress, Helio Alves, and Lincoln Goines. A Brazilian native, Helio has graced the piano keys on 3 Grammy winning CDs (with Yo Yo Ma, Paquito D' Rivera, and Joe Henderson); Lincoln has provided the low end with Mike Stern, Jon Lucien, and the Caribbean Jazz Project. These 3 have incredible chemistry, their music dancing around the great melodic and rhythmic interplay, and all of the trio's tunes were recorded live. Brandon Fields on sax, and John Tropea on Guitar, round out the performers, with each appearing masterfully on two tunes. The title track - written by Paul, features a Samba in 6/8, and a great cascading melody played mesmerizingly by Helio. The rest of the music runs the gamut from West Africa, to Cuba, to Brazil and back... Quoted from the bands last live appearance before the recording: 'You guys - in my taste - are the best band that's ever played in the 14 years of the Kaslo Jazz Festival. You guys were stellar! The interaction between you, the connection with the audience, was all just amazing.' Gusti Callis - Artistic Director ©2004.
