René Ranke - Brisbane based songwriter released 12 track CD, 'Beautiful Mistake' in 2005. The songs are essentially melodic with a strong emphasis on the lyric. Sweet vocals and easily identifiable themes tie the diverse musical elements together. They look at the comedy of life whilst maintaining a musical sophistication. His opinion on song-writing: 'I strive to write songs with strong melodies, good lyrics and unusual musical twists. If you can whistle a tune or sing it just by yourself, then it's a good tune.' Rene has taken his music to the Middle East and Asia where he has also lived. In 2002 he performed his songs on Kobe radio and in Osaka Dome for the FIFA World Cup Convention. Now he is performing in Australia and is touring the songs nationally. When asked about the title of the album 'Beautiful Mistake': 'Most of my really good song ideas are mistakes. I don't know how it happens. There seems to be split second where the conscious mind disengages and in that tiny window, serendipity sneaks in and creates something really good, and I seemingly have nothing to do with it!' The album tracks range over various topics. Love, Money, Infidelity, War, Oral Sex, Re-incarnation and the general appreciation of the female form. While a couple of the songs are just throw-away fun, others are quite moving and reflective in nature. He is multi-instrumental and influences on the CD range from Spanish flamenco to Middle Eastern minor trance drones. Perceptive, funny and poignant, these superbly written songs combine with clean production and René's distinct voice to deliver a truly accomplished work. Beautiful Mistake is a unique, and lyrically multi-layered album that will reveal more and more of itself on every listen.
