Working as a buyer for a glaziery, Otto Szamba Sr. is also the center of cultural activities in a small town near Budapest. He organizes festivals, a rowing squad, a choir, and a community theatre group. The children of the town embrace the community theatre, all except Otto junior who is ashamed of his father's tendency to overact both on stage and in real life. After some detours Otto Jr. and his friend end up as students of the Budapest Drama School. Along with generational differences being a main theme, the conflict of Communism vs. Capitalism is predominant in this delightful film by Robert Koltai.
