One of the best of Clark's uniformly excellent Blue Note sessions, Sonny's Crib features the front line of John Coltrane, Donald Byrd and Curtis Fuller. Divided between originals and standards, this album spawned the classic Clark-Coltrane reading of Kurt Weill's "Speak Low" and Clark's "News for Lulu" (a favorite of the New York downtown crowd). Added to the original 1957 LP are alternate takes of 3 selections, including "Speak Low," making this a must for Coltrane fans.
