Janet Tenaj began piano studies at age 4 and was singing and performing at age 7. She began her studies of piano with the classics eventually discovering jazz and devoting her time to the study of jazz. Tenaj is a jazz vocalist, writer and teacher for the past 20 years, as well. In recent years she returned to her first love which is Brazilian music, singing in Portuguese. She has headlined at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, Washington Street Jazz Festival and has performed with legendary Jimmy Scott, Marcus Belgrave, George Benson, Larry Nozero, Paul Keller and Bill Dowdy. Janet Tenaj is also co-creator with her husband, Sven Anderson, of the program 'Jazz Is ElemenTREE' (copyright 2000). This is a highly innovative program that teaches jazz blended with environmental awareness to young children ages (4-9). This program is endosed by Dr. Billy Taylor, recent Grammy Honoree. The Detroit News, August 2005 states, 'Janet Tenaj an artist deserving wider recognition'. Sven Anderson is a pianist extradonaire specializing in jazz, but well versed in all styles funk, fusion, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Broadway shows and pop. His original compositions and arrangements always add a new dimension to any recording or performance. Adding to his arsenal of sound, is his soulful nylon string guitar playing of Brazilian music. He has served as musical director for the legendary Jimmy Scott. He has performed with Earl Klugh, Cindy Blackman, Franz Jackson, Marcus Belgrave, J.C. Heard, Paul Keller, Larry Nozero, Tom Saunders, Charlie Grabriel and Ernie Krivda. He has headlined at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and Washington Street Jazz Festival. Sven has a M.M. in composition and was the first student at Oakland University to win for an original piano concerto. He has studied with David Sporney, Marvin 'Doc' Holliday, Dr. Billy Taylor. He has had master classes with Aaron Copland, George Crum and Virgil Thomson. Janet Tenaj & Sven Anderson, a husband and wife team, were recently heard on the national Mitch Albom radio show.
