It is a sad irony that Mildred Bailey, one of the foremost vocalists of the thirties, was virtually unable to make any records between 1942 and 1946. Fortunately, a number of V-Discs were issued during that lean period and a tiny label made two sessions with her in late 1945. The following year things began to look up when the Majestic label offered her a contract. The small bands backing Ms. Bailey were most probably rehearsed by Larkins who knew best what kind of discreet backing the singer needed. Lovely as these tracks are, her last Majestic session with just Larkins' trio remains the best.
