When Bubble Puppy hit in 1967, they were the wild new breed of Texas rock: long hair, loud amps, and sky-high hooks. Signed to International Artists Records - home to the 13th Floor Elevators - the band struck gold with their debut single, the blistering "Hot Smoke & Sassafras." A Hendrix-charged rocket, it blasted to #14 on the U.S. charts in early '69 and lit the fuse for what came next.
