In an early triumphant performance, Academy Award-winner MICHAEL DOUGLAS stars as Adam, a young university professor caught in a downward spiral of loveless relationships who travels back to his small hometown in search of a life more meaningful. Liking the down-to-earth lifestyle he finds there, he takes a summer job on a construction crew and starts seeing a beautiful small town girl with small town dreams (Lee Purcell). But as the summer draws to a close, he realizes that no matter which world he ends up living in, the meaning he so desperately searches for must come from within.
