Product Notes

With a molten mixture of driving R&B, soul, funk, and rock 'n' roll, the AJ Ghent Band captivates every concert audience. Led by Ghent's magnetic presence, powerful voice and mind-boggling guitar skill, the band's live show makes an indelible impression on all who experience it. The release of the Atlanta, GA-based band's album/DVD debut 'Live At Terminal West,' out April 7 on Blue Corn Music, will no doubt widen that ever-growing circle of fans. Ghent is a direct descendent of 'sacred steel' legends. His great uncle Willie Eason was among those who popularized gospel lap steel in the early 1900's, and his father Aubrey Ghent tours the world playing lap steel for the Slide Brothers. While Ghent grew up playing lap steel, he has chosen to take the roots of his family's musical heritage and definitively place it in the present, using custom-made stand-up eight-string lap steel and Telecaster hybrids --rocket ships for his incendiary playing. After growing up in Florida, Ghent eventually moved to Atlanta and immediately began gigging and performing at jam sessions around the city. He was quickly discovered by local legend Col. Bruce Hampton, who invited Ghent to join his band. While playing with Col. Bruce, Ghent continued honing his steel guitar sound and learned to be more spontaneous onstage --something that the AJ Ghent Band lives by today. The The AJ Ghent Band is AJ Ghent (vocals, guitar), his wife MarLa Ghent (backing vocals), his sister Tiffany Ghent (backing vocals), Seth Waters (bass), Gary Paulo (saxophone, guitar) and Will Groth (drums).
