Product Notes
With Ange et folie, Baroque violinist Guillaume Villeneuve and harpsichordist Luc Beausejour explore nearly a century of European music through works by Bach, Biber, Corelli, Rameau, Eccles, and Mondonville. Born from a program conceived for the stage, the album oscillates between two worlds: the introspection of Biber's Passacaglia 'L'Ange gardien' and the exuberant virtuosity of Corelli's La Folia. Between these two poles lie sonatas and pieces for harpsichord that bear witness to the interplay of styles and influences in Baroque Europe.
Winner of the Opus Discovery of the Year Award and first prize at the Mathieu-Duguay International Early Music Competition, Guillaume Villeneuve performs as a soloist in Canada and abroad. A founding member, first violinist, and artistic director of the Cobalt Quartet, he is also the concertmaster of Clavecin en concert and the FILMharmonique Orchestra, and teaches at the Montreal Conservatory of Music. A leading figure in early music, Luc Beausejour has enjoyed a distinguished international career spanning more than three decades. His discography includes nearly fifty albums, which have been honored with nine Opus Awards and two Felix Awards. As the founder and artistic director of Clavecin en concert, he also teaches at the Montreal Conservatory of Music.
