Product Notes

2016 collection that includes all of Paul's fan favorites on one disc, and a bonus CD of a full live acoustic performance. Paul Thorn has created an innovative and impressive career, pleasing crowds with his muscular brand of roots music - bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern American, yet also speaking universal truths. And now, in response to the demand of his fans, Paul is collecting some of his most-requested songs of the last decade and is releasing them - along with a new track and a bonus live recording - as Best of Paul Thorn. Among those who value originality, inspiration, eccentricity and character - as well as talent that hovers somewhere on the outskirts of genius, the story of Paul Thorn is already familiar. Best of Paul Thorn is a twelve track anthology that spans the latest decade of his remarkable career, with a running order that is not only listener-friendly but also artistically interesting. It's a collection that also highlights the most important themes in Paul's music - the influence of his father and uncle in his past (from the autobiographical "Pimps and Preachers") to his call-and- response concert staple "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand") and his life-affirming outlook going forward ("What Have You Done To Lift Somebody Up"). A newly released extra track, "Rose City," takes up the final slot on the album. Paul wrote this rocker years ago while working as a staff writer for Rick Hall at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, and finally recorded it in Baton Rouge, LA in 2015. Also included is a bonus CD featuring a stripped-down acoustic band performance recorded in Nashville. As with every Paul Thorn show, he has the audience crying one minute and laughing the next, all the while connecting with his fans, using his emotive voice and excellent band. It all adds up to Best of Paul Thorn, a double album that is a must-have for Paul Thorn fans new and old.
