Product Notes

' a touch of sheer Appalachia blended with old-fashioned acoustic folk . . . an honest musician who values the purity of live performance.' -Brattleboro Reformer 'You'll find no comparisons or references in this space to the usual female bright lights of the folk/acoustic world, such as Shawn Colvin, Sandy Denny, or Joan Baez. Yeakle, instead, sounds more nearly like some earlier twangy singer who might have appeared on Jamboree USA out of Wheeling West Virginia. She has created something novel by taking an older sound and making it her own. If we had to go with a comparison, it would sooner be Hazel Dickens or even a young Rosalie Sorrels.' -Alan Lewis, New England Music Scrapbook 'The less-is-more approach and conversational lyrics give the songs a traditional, timeless quality, . . . covering themes of longing, loss, and movin' on, sung in a twangy drawl that catches in all the right emotional places.' -Dave Madeloni, music critic *** This album of original songs was recorded live in the studio to capture that acoustic living-room sound. Along with Bethanie's guitar and Faux-bro, you'll hear the fiddle/mandolin of Phil Bloch and the upright bass of Duke Johnson*** Bethanie Yeakle has made no mistake in following her musical calling. She has been traveling around making music, writing songs, and collecting audiences all along the way. Largely a self-taught instrumentalist, her tools of the trade are primarily her voice and guitar, but she also plays her Faux-bro ('fake' dobro). She has one foot in bluegrass/americana roots music and the other foot in the singer/songwriter realm, but her feet are still moving. Bethanie began performing in 1996 in Southern PA, her area of origin. After quickly gaining notice, she was invited to play the Millennium Showcase of Southeastern PA in 1998 and again in 1999. After a few years of collecting road stories, Bethanie settled into Brattleboro, VT to record her first full-length album entitled Small Black Feather. In 2001, her songwriting and performance earned grand-prize finalist honors in WRSI 93.9 The River's singer/songwriter contest out of Northampton, MA. In July of 2002 she appeared at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in the Emerging Artist Showcase. In 2003, she was a finalist in the Suwanee Springfest singer/songwriter competition and was invited to play Club Passim's May and Aug 2003 Campfire Festival!
