2012 collection curated by DJ, producer, label owner and record collector Gilles Peterson, who pays tribute to one of his favorite labels: Black Jazz Records. Far more than simply a "Best Of" collection, Gilles successfully links the disparate corners of Black Jazz's first class Soul/Jazz/Funk catalog from 1971 to 1976, with tracks by Calvin Keys, Doug Carn, Kellee Patterson and label head Gene Russell, while making the listener nearly forget the thread that ties the tracks together.
