Product Notes

I am proud to present, what I consider, my legacy album entitled 'Country Music Lives On.' Featuring 12 songs of which I wrote, published, and produced. Available at bobbymackey.com, iTunes and Amazon. Shaunita Music BMI Shaunita Productions Shaunita Records Thanks for the overwhelming support through the year, Bobby Mackey Country music has a haunted history--from the untimely deaths of Hank Williams and Johnny Horton (who, eerily, were each married to the same woman when they died respectively) to the plane crashes that claimed the lives of Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and Hawkshaw Hawkins. As for inner demons, no other genre can compete. But if you wanna get downright paranormal, look no further than country music singer and club owner Bobby Mackey. The proprietor of Bobby Mackey's nightclub in Wilder, Kentucky, for over 30 years--considered by some ghost hunters as the most haunted place in America--Mackey has been conjuring his own blend of traditional country music since he was a boy listening to the jukebox in his father's general store. If his music sounds like a specter from the past, it's because it is--in the best possible way. Listening to Mackey's latest, Country Music Lives On, one could almost forget the last 30 years of country music ever happened. This is sawdust on the floor, tear in your beer, country like it's too seldom heard these days. You'll hear echoes of Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Johnny Paycheck (all of whom he namechecks on this CD), but Mackey's sound is actually more akin to a pitch-perfect honky tonk blend Vern Gosdin and Bobby Bare. What makes Mackey a supernatural force, though, is his songwriting--which proves he's got plenty of substance and not mere style. From the biographical 'Country Music Lives On' to the American Gothic ode to 'Poor Pearl, Poor Girl' (a song about one of the apparitions said to said to haunt Mackey's), Mackey can turn a phrase with the best of 'em. He even takes on gospel from an everyman's perspective with 'I Saw Jesus On The Wall'. Almost as gruesome as the tragedies that took place in Mackey's before it became a nightclub (I'll let you investigate those at his website), is the fact that there's not a ghost of a chance commercial radio will play Bobby Mackey's music. Thankfully an expose courtesy of the television series Ghost Adventures has given him a much-deserved audience. If you're a fan of true traditional country, this release is highly recommended. Support the real stuff before it dies out.
