Product Notes
"Boingo" is the self titled final studio album by the American rock band (Oingo) Boingo before they disbanded. It marked a shift in the band's sound and style, as they moved away from their more eccentric, ska-influenced roots to a more straightforward rock approach. The album was released in 1994, a year after the band had already begun transitioning their style. By this time, Oingo Boingo was no longer the same band they were in the '80s and had changed their name to simply Boingo. Danny Elfman, the band's primary member and the main creative force, was increasingly busy with his film scoring career (he famously scored music for movies like "Batman", "The Nightmare Before Christmas", and "Edward Scissorhands"). "Boingo" reflects a more mature and polished version of their sound, as the band explored more alternative rock and industrial influences, moving away from their new wave and ska origins. The album blends elements of alternative rock, industrial, and electronic music, incorporating a more guitar-driven sound compared to earlier albums. Danny Elfman's vocals are still a central feature, with his characteristic dramatic delivery and ability to navigate both dark and playful moods.
