Product Notes
3CDs Exploring The World Of Brass-Driven Rock. Featuring Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Atomic Rooster, Ccs, Jack Bruce, Manfred Mann Chapter Three, The Web, Julie Driscoll, The Alan Bown, Zoo, Arthur Brown And More... As rock expanded it's horizons and broadened it's palette in the late 1960s a new strand emerged as artists, likely taking their cue from the brass-tinged, Victoriana psychedelia of McCartney and Co, began to include brass instruments in their work. With these ancient accompaniments now boldly placed front and centre, and pulling in influences from jazz and rhythm and blues, bands such as Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago created a new, driving sound that hovered in a previously unexplored Venn diagram sweet spot where hard rock, prog, jazz, R&B and psychedelia all coalesced. 'Brass Tacks' captures that vibrant, sometimes explosive, time and place, taking us on a seven-year journey into a fabled land where the trombone trumped the guitar, the saxophone ruled supreme and one might even catch a glimpse of the lesser-spotted flugelhorn. Compiled by Martin 'Cally' Callomon, and featuring a plethora of household names alongside leftfield inclusions and wilfully obscure curiosities, all of which feature in his extensive spotter's field guide, this is must-hear material for the obliviously hip, the weary musical traveller looking for a new avenue to explore, and those who just like their rock horny.
