Product Notes

'Picture a time so remote.. that it virtually paralyzes memory. Got it? Now imagine the soundtrack, and you've got an idea of what the Red Stick Ramblers are all about.' Dan Gilbert. Where Y'at Magazine 'The Red Stick Ramblers are pure joy. They're a great band, crafty songwriters and faithful interpreters of the most authentic Cajun traditions.' Linda Ronstadt. The Red Stick Ramblers all met in Baton Rouge, LA, where all six were living, working and attending school in the area surrounding Louisiana State University. Since they first started playing together three years ago, they have become one of the top young roots bands in the country, playing major festivals and concert spaces across the United States and Europe. From coast to coast and abroad, the Ramblers sound is contagious, spiced with danceable rhythm and strong elegant memories. Their self-titled debut album was selected by Offbeat Magazine as one of the top ten Louisiana albums of 2002. The Ramblers have also been recognized as the Best Emerging Cajun Band at the 2002 Offbeat 'Best of the Beat' Music Awards. 2003 finds the Ramblers touring solidly throughout North America and building a loyal following with their singular mixture of Cajun fiddle tunes, Western Swing songs, Bluegrass, traditional Jazz of the 1920s and 1930s alongside tradition-inspired originals. The Bring It On Down (their Memphis International album debut) version of the band includes Joel Savoy on fiddle, the eldest son of acclaimed Cajun musicians Marc and Ann Savoy who had made a name for himself as fiddler for both The Red Ramblers and The Savoy Family Band. Also front and center is Linzay Young on fiddle and lead vocals and a childhood friend of Joel's The Ramblers' guitarist is Chas Justus, a non-Cajun who hold his own in the band, coming from the tradition of B.B. King, T-Bone Walker and other guitar gods. Josh Caffery plays mandolin on the album and is joined by Glenn Fields on drums and Eric Frey on standup bass. Their new album includes several numbers sung in French ('Belle,' 'Two Step Des Condamnes),' a few you might have heard before ('Sixteen Tons,' 'Dinah'), some western swinging ('Bring It On Down To My House,' 'Stay All Night') and originals that entertain both the body and mind ('Main Street Blues,' 'What Do I Do?') plus a 'sweet and low' selection ('Blue Drag') and some of the bluest grass around ('Rattle My Cage'). The Red Stick Ramblers musical platter is as tasty as crawfish Étouffée and better for your heart!
