Product Notes
There's heart-melting warmth to Cindy Church's voice, a quality the Nova Scotia-born performer doesn't abuse. Her singing on this third disc is natural, not maudlin, with only a slight unaffected twang, and the arrangements are gratifyingly corn-free. Cindy Church mixes pop-inflected contemporary country like "Wheel of Love" and "Sweet Dreams of You" (with high lonesome backups courtesy of Billy Cowsill) with lonely farmhouse weepers like "Bitter Pride" (written by Sylvia Tyson) and "The Chance You Took with Me." Neither of the latter two can quite compare to the exquisitely morose "What We Almost Had" in the regret department, however. Other highlights include Amos Garrett's smoky jazz guitar in "Only Time Can Cure," the western swing of "Lover Please," and a touching rendition of Ian Tyson's "What Does She See."
