The booming 12-string guitar, wryly funny lyrics and sheer drive of Barbecue Bob endeared him to two generations of blues fans, his contemporary black record buying public & the later white audience of the Fifties and Sixties. His songs included social comment & pathos along with the jokes & he would try his hand at anything, singing spirituals, playing impressive slide & backing other singers.
