Product Notes
Sergei Kamarov, Vasili Kovrigin, Vassili Gaponenko, K. Moskalenko. Another mind-boggling forgotten sci-fi masterpiece. The soviets have built two massive spaceships for flights to the moon. Although he is considered too old, a brash, white-bearded Russian scientist takes off in the first rocket, along with his pretty assistant and a soviet boy scout. They eventually land on the Lunar surface, but discover they may not have enough oxygen for the return voyage home. To make things more complicated, the professor is buried in a rockslide and lays helpless in a vast Lunar cavern. Will they be able to return safely to the Earth? The special effects are brilliant for the era. The rocket-launching runway is enormous bigger than anything Six Flags has and the takeoff sequence is a wow. The lavish black and white cinematography is a visual delight. Watch as the space explorers bounce lightly across the Lunar landscape. The intricacy of the spaceship's interior is quite lavish. Any fan of outer space movies simply can't let this one go by. A must-have for sure. NOTE: Although released in 1936, the film was actually shot in the early '30s as a silent film but with a full orchestral music score. We have added English language story cards. From a beautiful 35mm print.
