Three stories, cut from the lurid panels of old EC Comics, unfold with the mischievous confidence of filmmakers who know exactly how far to push a chill before it curls into a grin. In one tale, small-town cruelty meets poetic justice via a wooden figure with a long memory; in another, teens drifting lazily on open water discover that nature itself can turn predator; and in the final chapter, a guilty conscience refuses to stay dead on the roadside. Directed by Michael Gornick, with memorable appearances by George Kennedy, Dorothy Lamour, and Lois Chiles, this 1982 horror anthology plays like a midnight-movie confession whispered straight to the audience.
