In the early 1980s, the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs were one of the best college football teams in the nation, riding high on the backs of Eric Dickerson & Craig James' celebrated "Pony Excess" backfield. Less than a decade later, the team would be shattered, rocked by the NCAA's first and only use of the "death penalty" on a college football program. Twenty years later, director Thaddeus D. Matula, an SMU film school grad, chronicles the rise, fall and rebirth of this once mighty team.
