Product Notes
Recorded in 1988, Feel The Wind unites two jazz giants, Freddie Hubbard and Art Blakey, for a powerful and inspired session with The Jazz Messengers. From the opening moments, Hubbard ignites the band with his commanding tone and electrifying trumpet work, delivering some of his most expressive playing of the era. The album features a standout Messengers lineup including Javon Jackson, Benny Green and Leon Dorsey. Together they create a vibrant, hard‑driving performance that captures the essence of hard bop at it's peak. Blakey's unmistakable rhythmic force anchors the music with relentless energy, while the ensemble responds with remarkable cohesion and intensity. Hubbard shines throughout, combining dazzling technique with deep musical expression, a reminder of why he remains one of jazz's most influential trumpet voices. This edition also includes two bonus tracks "Piano Trio Medley" and "Big Foot" from a 1985 trio session featuring Hubbard and Blakey pairing with Mulgrew Miller and Lonnie Plaxico. These intimate recordings highlight Miller's sublime touch and offer a compelling contrast to the full‑band fire of the main program. Feel The Wind stands as a dynamic and memorable addition to The Jazz Messengers legacy, showcasing both the enduring power of Blakey's leadership and the brilliance of Hubbard and Blakey at full strength. Feel The Wind is part of the enduring 50th year legacy of the Dutch Timeless Records label. The sleeve contains newly written liner-notes by Wim & Ria Wigt.
