Product Notes

The CD, Flashback reflects Tom’s past via his contemporary smooth jazz perspective.

The album kicks off with “Hub City Jam”, the first single from Tom Braxton's second album for Innervision Records. This upbeat groove, produced by Blake Aaron, features friend and trumpet extraordinaire Rick Braun. Hub City is one of the nicknames for Braxton's hometown of Lubbock, Texas, where it all began. Tom set out to pay a musical tribute to his hometown, and the result is "Hub City Jam," a fun, upbeat party tune. Braun and Braxton jam together and take turns during this toe-tapper. Get ready to get out of your seat and dance as you enjoy this jam!

Inspired by his hometown neighborhood, "East Side Hang" captures the spirit of community and fun times spent playing games and celebrating together. Featuring Al Turner on bass, Mark Harper on guitar, Eric Willis on keys, and Gorden Campbell on drums, this lively song feels like a neighborhood block party! Behind his boyhood home on the east side is a beautiful canyon with a large lake. With his second single, “Canyon Dreams”, Tom sought to capture the calm and relaxing vista from his back porch. He hopes his lilting melody on the soprano sax and the infectious groove inspire the listener to reflect and dream. Daran DeShazo adds just the right seasoning of acoustic guitar to the musical fabric. Tom celebrates family with “Ruby J.”, a spirited groove for his sister which features LA keyboardist/producer, Herman Jackson. Ruby's early piano playing inspired Braxton to begin his musical journey around 8 years of age. “Like Mama Said”, is an upbeat tribute to his loving mother and her wise and sometimes funny advice. “Yesterdaze” is a smooth offering from producer/ instrumentalist Alex Bailey. It gives the listener a backdrop for reflection and reminiscing. Tom spent many hours in the marching band, especially at Texas Tech University. “Crank It!” inspires the listener to get up and get moving with the infectious house beat. Guitarist and label mate, JJ Sansaverino, and the punchy horn section really turn this into a party!. “Flashback” sets the serene mood for a dreamy trip down memory lane with Tom's soprano leading the way. Braxton’s wife, Sharon, composed the catchy hook. The album ends with Carole King's classic, “So Far Away”. Guest vocalist, Castella, interprets this sincere ballad that tugs at the listener's heart as she expresses the pain of separation from loved ones and the longing to be reunited. Braxton's sophomore release for Innervision Records ranges from spirited and funky grooves to reflective smooth jazz ballads. There is plenty of music for everyone as Braxton will have you looking back and grooving forward.
