Glen or Glenda is an exploitation film written, directed by, and starring Ed Wood, and featuring the famous Bela Lugosi. This docudrama about cross-dressing and transsexuality is semi-autobiographical of Wood. In a time when transsexuality was not widely accepted, this is a plea for tolerance. When the suicide of a transvestite is discovered by police, the inspector seeks advice from a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist tells him two different stories. One is the story of Glen, who is to be married to Barbara, but must find a way to tell her of his desire to wear her sweater. Another is the story of Alan, who decides to physically become a female via surgery.
