Product Notes
Andre Williams is a legend in Detroit. He worked for and was fired from Tamla/Motown several times! Performer, composer, A&R, producer... he worked with names such as Mary Wells, Stevie Wonder, the Dramatics, the Chi-Lites, Ike & Tina Turner, and Funkadelic! During the last decade, he has recorded for prestigious alternative labels like Norton, in the Red, and Bloodshot, and has seen his career go up again after decades of obscurity. He has been touring relentlessly all this time, and getting applause and recognition by both audiences and fellow musicians (Jon Spencer, Mick Collins, etc.) who adore his tough and dirty approach to R&B. We proudly present a fantastic anthology featuring all his most greasy Soul and Funk cuts from the '50s, '60s and '70s, taken from the vaults of several labels (Fortune, Avin, Sport, Wingate, Ric-Tic, Checker, Chess etc.) plus a good number of previously un-released tracks. Vampi. 2006.
