In the late '90s, the seniors on an Ivy League rowing team were coming off the embarrassment of a last-place finish in the nationals. It took the installation of ex-military Jack Murphy (Michael Shannon) as their new head coach to break down their destructive petty rivalries and get them to function as an actual crew.
