After a period of relative inactivity, the proposition of Hymnen (him-nen) was struck between the Crisp brothers with local luminary Michael Baier. The idea was to make aggressive and confrontational music whilst avoiding the tropes long associated with conventional Punk/Metal, and to ease off the distortion and wall-of-sound in favor of push-and-pull tension between rhythm and melody. About the band, Mike Baier says 'my role has been less as principle songwriter and more as coordinator of the others' exceptional talents - a drastic departure from what I did in Brachiation. I let the Crisp brothers develop the rhythmic skeleton of the music - to avoid density, keep things minimal.'
