Product Notes
'Your album is amazing. It's so musical and well-recorded and well-sung and real. I've been with this mag since August 2004, and I have to tell you that it's best locally produced CD I've ever heard. I'm proud to help spread the word about you and your band.' Bob Smith - Good Times Magazine Katie Pearlman began playing drums at age 10 and it wasn't long before she was playing in a band. At 16, Katie moved into an apartment and that's when she started playing guitar more and songwriting, since drumming was not the most neighborly thing to do. Katie's songwriting at that time was her means of processing her thoughts and feelings about the world around her as she started moving though the confusing world of high school. To this day, it is still her means of processing and exploring her thoughts and feelings. As she progressed into her late teens, her songwriting ambition waned as other musical directions competed for her attention. At age 18, Katie enrolled at William Paterson University and was required to play percussion in the orchestra for two semesters. She then began to explore hand drumming and percussion. This venture led to a turning point in Katie's life. She was actively recruited by a band not far from her home in northern New Jersey called Vibe Theory which became a stepping stone to the band that followed, One-Eyed Jack. It was in this band, that Katie was introduced to improvisational music. It also afforded her the opportunity to develop her vocal abilities. The musical chemistry found with keyboardist, Jeff Pearlman, outlasted their stay in the band and has continued thru several musical projects. In 2006, Katie rediscovered her gift for songwriting, and In less than a year, Katie has composed a complete album of songs, and recorded and produced her first solo album. At this point, Katie is exploring all of the possibilities of playing her music. She sees herself as leading her band vocally and musically from behind the drum kit, but also has been exploring fronting the band with her acoustic guitar. What seems to be a recurring theme with Katie, though, is her inner search for truth and understanding of herself and the world she's a part of. This search is now being explored through writing and performing music as well as looking to find her place and voice in the musical world and the world at large. These searches are evident if you listen to her songs. The lyrical and emotional content tend to resonate within many people, and her growing audience seems to find reflections of their own searching and struggles in her work. As Katie has become aware of the connections she's making with these former strangers, now kindred spirits as well as fans, she has become more inspired to perform her music, feeling that if her performance reaches but one person, it has been worth the effort.
