Product Notes
Sinem Arslan Ströbel, an emerging figure in the Munich underground music scene, has woven her cultural heritage into a unique blend of post-punk and Anatolian influences. Growing up as the only Turkish student in her Bavarian school, Sinem navigated the tension between two identities: one rooted in her Turkish origins and the other shaped by the expectations of mainstream German society. Her debut album, Köşk, draws inspiration from classic Anatolian rock and pop from the 60s and 70s, channeling themes of humanity, freedom, and protest. Sinem revitalizes these traditions, blending them with post-punk energy, which brings a new interpretation to familiar songs by icons like Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço, and Cem Karaca. The album, lasting 35 minutes, opens with "Dem Dem" and includes tracks such as "Gurbet" (Özdemir Erdoğan) and "Sivas'ın Yolları" (Selda Bağcan), all infused with Sinem's personal experience of cultural longing. The album closes with a powerful reinvention of male-centric songs like "Gel Gel" (Cem Karaca) and "Lambaya Püf De" (Barış Manço), reflecting Sinem's embrace of self-empowerment and gender fluidity. The trio's lineup includes Tom Wu, a dynamic force in the Munich music scene, and Martin Tagar, a talented guitarist known for his minimalist yet impactful playing. Sinem's music is a compelling fusion of cultural heritage, punk ethos, and personal empowerment.
