Product Notes
Italian flute player Manuel Zurria presents his third release for Die Schactel's Zeit Composer Series, continuing his run of some of the most heartbreaking music ever published by the label. A moving and incredibly clever transcription for flutes, glass, and electronics of John Dowland's 1604 masterwork Lachrimae functions as the thread between a stunning and totally rewarding series of pieces by György Kurtag, Peter Eötvos, Gavin Bryars, Mary Jane Leach, and Howard Skempton, closing on a Juste Janulyte composition written for this album. This CD is the living proof that contemporary music can be intoxicating. The restless experimentation and creativity of Manuel Zurria have resulted in a brilliant series of collaborative works with legendary composers such as Luc Ferrari, Alvin Lucier, Arvo Pärt, John Cage, Morton Feldman, László Sáry, Louis Andriessen, Gavin Bryars, Stefano Scodanibbio, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Jonathan Harvey. He has been invited to many international festivals and recorded for Capstone Records, EdiPan, Stradivarius, Megadisc, and Touch.
