Product Notes
Left of Sunday Afternoon, the latest release by Austin guitarist Darin Layne, is a journey at once familiar and exotic. Layne, known for his soulful jazz work as leader of the Darin Layne Trio and his traditional Brazilian /choro/ interpretations as a leader of the Crying Monkeys, teams with world percussionist Jason McKenzie (Atash) to deliver ten tracks structured organically around the dynamic combination of acoustic guitar and tabla. The album contains nine original compositions, plus a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Black Mountainside". Layne and McKenzie are joined by other notable Austin musicians, including violinist Roberto Riggio (Atash) and cellist Joey Santori (Rajamani), adding the sensuous touch of strings to certain tracks.
