Product Notes

L'Intégrale is a boxset that encompasses the carrier and sonic brio of one of the most iconic French duos, Les Rita Mitsouko, nearly 40 years after Frédéric Chichin and Catherine Ringer formed the group. A boxset including Les Rita Mitsouko's seven studio albums, the remix album Re, two live albums, Acoustiques and en Concert Avec l'Orchestre Lamoureux, one mini-album titles The Eye (More Variety), one brand-new album of rarities, and one DVD with two rare tour movies, Panne Dans La Guerre Froide (1989) and La Vie Du Rail (1989) both shot and directed by Roland Allard in Moscow and Mumbai. All releases have been remastered from the original tapes by Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios. PAL format DVD (Region/Zone: 0).Catherine Ringer and Frédéric Chichin met and formed an amazing band nearly 40 years ago. The subsequent music they made as Les Rita Mitsouko has remained steadfastly popular and relevant ever since. Neither fashions nor trends, nor Fred's tragic, untimely death in 2007, have blunted the sonic brio of this iconic duo. Always visually strong, mixing up humor and gravitas, madness and sweet derision, their rich, adventurous, modern discography, both joyfully experimental and commercially viable, has traversed the ages with impunity. For the uninitiated, here is a brief résumé of their discography and career: In 1979, multi-instrumentalists Catherine and Fred met on the set of the Marc'O punk opera Flashes Rouges in the edgy Montreuil suburb of Paris. They hit it off immediately and soon embarked on a number of faltering, now forgotten groups with other musicians, before consolidating their true power as a duo. 1984 saw the release of their debut album Rita Mitsouko, recorded with Krautrock producer Conny Plank. It was the fourth single release, "Marcia Baila", that first grabbed everyone's attention, selling over a million copies and becoming one of the most played songs in French broadcasting history. They were suddenly superstars in a parallel universe, as big in France as Duran Duran or Frankie Goes To Hollywood were in the UK, though across a slender stretch of water the Brits remained largely impervious to their charms. It should be noted that not all anglophones were immune to their collective genius: Sparks, Iggy Pop, and Serj Tankian of System of a Down are some of the giants of alternative rock who've collaborated with them over the years.
