Drummer Colin Stranahan has a long list of awards to his credit including the prestigious Presidential Scholar in the Arts Award and has played with many great jazz musicians including Herbie Hancock, Benny Golson and Ravi Coltrane, to name a few. His latest trio recording is a blend of standards and originals played with a freedom of expression that only works when musicians have a great empathy with one another. The trio, which includes Stranahan, Chris Smith and Ben Van Gelder is joined on two of the tracks by saxophonist Jake Saslow. The music is honest, free and fluid.
